Indy Winter Farmers Market Vendor: Becker Farms

Every week during the Indy Winter Farmers Market season, we'll be profiling one of our local vendors! You can find the full list of IWFM vendors and past profiles here.

Becker Farms, 2nd season at IWFM

Our farm is located in northeast Henry County in the small town of Mooreland. While we began our farming operation with the production of grass-fed freezer beef, we have expanded our offering to include pastured chicken, turkey, duck, pork, lamb, goat and rabbit, as well as eggs and some produce.

Most popular item?
During the winter months, we sell a lot of roasts, stew meat and whole chickens for hearty, slow-cooked meals. Year-round, ground beef, bacon and eggs are in high demand.

Why should people shop at the IWFM?
From our experience, the IWFM has a great group of quality, dedicated farmers, producers and artisans. You can source a wide variety of local products under one roof and connect with the very people who made those items.

What do you buy at the IWFM?
We enjoy supporting fellow vendors at the market and have purchased a variety of items such as breads from Amelia's, ice cream from Lick, tamales from 3-in-1 Restaurant, greens from Eden Farms, among others.

Indy Winter Farmer Market Vendor: Growing Places Indy

Every week during the Indy Winter Farmers Market season, we'll be profiling one of our local vendors! You can find the full list of IWFM vendors and past profiles here.

Growing Places Indy
We are the non-profit that brings you the IWFM! We also operate four micro-farms around downtown, which generate funding for our youth and adult educational programs. In 2012, we began growing microgreens year-round in the greenhouse at the Chase Near Eastside Legacy Center, just 1.5 miles from the City Market. We supply several local restaurants with microgreens, and we are delighted to expand to the market as well!

Most popular item?
We're excited to see what you love the most! One of our staff favorites is micro radish greens, which are an intense purple and have a spicy kick. We don't use any chemicals or synthetic fertilizers.

Why should people shop at the IWFM?
Because it's the best grocery shopping experience in town! You know everything is fresh and delicious. You get to meet the people who grow/raise the food. A trip to the grocery store is just that. But a trip to the IWFM is an experience that benefits you and the community!

What do you buy at the IWFM?
You'll find Growing Places Indy staff, board members, volunteers, supporters and friends at the IWFM every week, and between us we buy just about everything at the market!
