Where Will Our Growers, Producers & Artisans Be This Summer?

Thank you all so much for making our first season so successful for our growers, producers and artisans, and for the community! We look forward to bringing you the Indiana winter bounty again beginning in November. Stay tuned for new location information!

And now there are a great number of Farmers Markets to enjoy throughout the summer months! All of us from the Indy Winter Farmers Market look forward to seeing you out enjoying all that Indiana growers and artisans have to offer. To help you find your favorite IWFM vendors, we're working on a list of the summer Farmers Markets at which you can find the growers, producers & artisans who have been at the IWFM. If you don't find what you are looking for, please check back. We are posting information as we receive it from the vendors. Thanks!

First, below you will find a list of just the farmers market at which you will find one or more IWFM vendors. This is NOT a complete list of Indianapolis area or Indiana farmers markets. These are markets that IWFM growers and producers have said they'll be attending. You can link to more information about each market, including location and directions. Following below you will find a list of IWFM vendors with each market they will be attending this summer.

From those who have provided their summer locations so far, here is a list of IWFM vendors and which specific markets they will be attending.

Workshop Update

Thanks to all who participated in the rain barrel making workshop this week. It was so much fun, you may find us offering workshops at other farmers markets this summer! Not only did participants learn to make a rain barrel that will allow them to use rain water rather than city water on their gardens, lawns and house plants, but they raised over $100 for the IWFM by participating in the IWFM rain barrel workshop! You can read a great review of the workshops with a step by step description on the blog of one of our participants: Read Here.

If you could not make it out for this rain barrel workshop, we'll be doing another one this Friday evening at Invoke Yoga & Pilates Studio. Rain barrel reservations are nearly full, but as always, all are welcome to observe without a reservation, and you can come at 5:45 p.m. for a yoga warm-up before the workshop begins at 6:15. Attendance is by donation. Read more about other workshops in the Go Green Challenge on the April 3rd post below. Attendance to all are now by donation!

We are looking forward to having Constance Ferry at the market this Saturday, April 11th, with her Herbs & Perennials. Let's hope the weather takes a turn for the better by then.

Also, you won't want to miss the special Easter treat offerings this Saturday! We look forward to seeing you there!

April Workshops

We are excited to be offering some fun special events at the IWFM this month. Additionally, some of the folks who've worked so hard to help make the IWFM happen this winter are joining our efforts again to offer a series of "Go Green" workshops at Invoke Yoga Studio each Friday evening in April. Here's a schedule of events:

Indianapolis Winter Farmers Market, April Events:

April 4, 10-11a.m.: Rain Barrel Making Workshop
This hands-on workshop will lead participants through the steps of making and installing a rain barrel. All spaces are filled for those wishing to make a rain barrel to take home, but observation of the process is FREE and welcome.

April 11, 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. : Herbs and Perennials as Companion Plants - Sale and Discussion
Constance Ferry of Hobbit Gardens will have herbs and perennials available for sale to help you get your garden growing. Constance will speak at 10:30 a.m. on using herbs and perennials as companion plants in the garden, but feel free to ask her about at any time as you do you consider what to add to your garden this year. She has a wealth of information that she is happy to share.

April 18, 10-11 a.m.: Chickens and Goats in Your Urban Backyard?
Yes, it’s true. Fountain Square urban livestock farmer Kevin Willis will bring his two (live) goats to market and talk about his experiences keeping goats and chickens in his small, urban backyard, as well as what you need to know if you are considering bringing livestock into your backyard.

April 25, Last Day of the Indy Winter Farmers Market until November 2009!
Don’t miss out on the last day of the first Indy Winter Farmers Market season. Many thanks to all who supported the market’s growers and producers by choosing to buy local. We could not have imagined a more successful first season. We’ll keep in touch over the summer through the IWFM e-newsletter. Also keep visiting www.indywinterfarmersmarket.org. We'll keep you posted on exciting events in the works for this summer. Also we’ll be moving to a new location for November 2009, so sign-up for our e-newsletter or check our web site (coming soon) next fall so you know where to find us.
