Indy Winter Farmers Market Vendor: Brotgarten

Every week during the Indy Winter Farmers Market season, we'll be profiling one of our local vendors! You can find the full list of IWFM vendors and past profiles here.

Brotgarten, 5th season at IWFM

Brotgarten specializes in German artisan breads and pastries. Time is our greatest investment in order to develop a superior flavor and texture. Our loaves might have an uniquely irregular shape, but they are the product of our passion for one of the world's most traditional crafts!

Most popular item?
Vital bread! German sourdough bread with fresh carrots, pumpkin seeds, golden/brown flax seed and oats. This bread was created to please the eyes and the palate, and the ingredients were chosen taking in consideration its health benefits.

Why should people shop at the IWFM?
The best way to purchase the freshest product full of health benefits and great taste/flavor is to get them directly from the producer/grower. Shopping at the farmers market and getting to know the vendors/producers/farmers is the best way to get to know who is behind the food you are bringing to your table. It is the secret of eating well and being well!

What do you buy at the IWFM?
Vegetables, eggs, meats, cheeses, honey, olive oil, tea leaves, ready-to-eat foods and ice cream, kitchen tools and flowers.

Indy Winter Farmers Market Vendor: Full Hand Farm

Every week during the Indy Winter Farmers Market season, we'll be profiling one of our local vendors! You can find the full list of IWFM vendors and past profiles here.

Full Hand Farm, 3rd season at IWFM

Located on 25 acres of new ground in 2014, in Perkinsville, we produce sustainably raised, diversified mixed vegetables and herbs year round.

Most popular item?
Our winter carrots and winter spinach. Both crops are incredibly sweet this time of year because they each convert their inherent starches into sugars every time they go through a freeze, and that means this year we have some especially sweet carrots and spinach!

Why should people shop at the IWFM?
I always encourage people to shop at the market for two reasons: It's the best food in the city, and it's the best Saturday morning atmosphere in the city!

What do you buy at the IWFM?
We do lots of our shopping at the market, including honey from Wildflower Ridge, bread from Amelia's, cheese from Ludwig and root crops we don't grow ourselves from Stout's Melody acres.

Indy Winter Farmers Market Vendor: Three Carrots

Every week during the Indy Winter Farmers Market season, we'll be profiling one of our local vendors! You can find the full list of IWFM vendors and past profiles here.

Three Carrots, 1st season at IWFM

We sell seitan, a vegetarian, plant-based meat alternative, along with breakfast food and sandwiches. We intend to open a plant-based, 100 percent-vegetarian restaurant in 2015.

Most popular item?
Our biscuits and gravy and our sweet potato hash. Every week we sell out of both!

Why should people shop at the IWFM?
You support your local community. I buy almost all of my produce from local farmers and we get our ingredients for our seitan from Good Earth Natural Foods, so when you buy from us, not only are you supporting us, you are also supporting the farmers and small businesses we use as suppliers. It keeps your money in our community.

What do you buy at the IWFM?
I'm always super stoked on what my friends from Raw Gourmet Delights bring to the market. Amelia's bread is insanely good. We are always distracted by how good the Body Eclectic soaps smell. I've been buying spices, oils, and vinegars from Artisano's for years. We use a lot of Harvestland's produce. We love being part of the market and are honored to be surrounded by such talent.

Indy Winter Farmers Market Vendor: Amelia's

Every week during the Indy Winter Farmers Market season, we'll be profiling one of our local vendors! You can find the full list of IWFM vendors and past profiles here.

Amelia's, 2nd season at IWFM

Located at 653 Virginia Ave. in the Fletcher Place/Holy Rosary neighborhood, we are a production bakery that specializes in bread baked on a stone hearth in the European tradition. Our bread is leavened with a sourdough starter, and we allow the dough to ferment at a cool temperature overnight to enhance the flavor. This process takes more time, 18-24 hours from mixing to baking, but we believe it really makes better bread.

Most popular item?
The Focaccia or the City Loaf are probably our best-selling items. We recently started making sourdough scones, which have been very popular.

Why should people shop at the IWFM?
Buying local is much more interesting. Whatever is important to you about the products you purchase, you can find out easily and directly.

What do you buy at the IWFM?
We buy meat, eggs, produce and honey.
